Why? Why do they do this?

I'll first share the tracks and then explain.

Death Cab for Cutie: "Love Song" (Cure cover)
Katy Perry: "Black and Gold" (Sam Sparro cover)
DeVotchKa: "Hot Burrito #1 (I'm Your Toy)" (Flying Burrito Brothers cover)
Department of Eagles: "Love Me" (Elvis Presley cover)
Jessica Lea Mayfield: "Words of Love" (Buddy Holly cover)
Ben Bridwell: "Your Love Is Forever" (George Harrison cover)
Kate Tucker: "I'm on Fire" (Bruce Springsteen cover)
Rogue Wave: "Maps" (Yeah Yeah Yeahs cover)
A.C. Newman: "Take on Me" (a-ha cover)
Jem: "Yellow" (Coldplay cover)
Richard Hawley: "Early Morning Rain" (Gordon Lightfoot cover)
Daniel Martin Moore: "I Hear Music" (Billie Holiday cover)
She & Him: "I Put a Spell on You" (Screamin' Jay Hawkins cover)
Lila Downs: "My One and Only Love" (Frank Sinatra cover)

So, apparently, on January 30th, Starbucks (which i think sucks in it's own rite), will be releasing Sweetheart: Our Favorite Artists Sing Their Favorite Love Songs. This album will include the aforementioned tracks. Now normally, I would not care if skinny little hipsters with painted on nut huggin' jeans wanted to jam to out, but why do the individuals above have to help with the process? It hurts even more that Ben Bridwell is taking part. If I were in Band of Horses and Ben was trying to cover George Harrison, I would have to sit him down for an intervention. I thought bands that signed on Brushfire Records were supposed to be involved in more down to earth endeavors and as Jack Johnson says "our artists are not driven by dollar signs". It's just a "cryin', cryin', cryin' shame" that Rogue Wave is participating :(.
